Key Features

Lightweight & Efficient

On the water, there are perceptions and there's performance. V10 Verado outboards are calibrated to deliver raw performance on 87-octane fuel. A closed-loop fuel system and Advanced Range Optimization (ARO) maximize range and efficiency, while an aluminum engine block and lightweight cowl reduce transom load to further enhance performance.

Quiet & Smooth

Industry-leading technology works to minimize noise, vibration and harshness to ensure that V10 Verado outboards deliver an uncompromising boating experience that delights the senses without overpowering them. At idle, cruise and wide-open throttle, V10 Verado outboards are significantly quieter than every other outboard in their class.

Thrilling Speed & Acceleration

V10 Verado redefines high-horsepower performance. The 350hp model is 17.8 seconds faster from 0 to top speed than a 350hp competitor, while the 425hp Verado can beat a 450hp competitor out of the hole on a heavily-loaded boat.

Effortless Operation

Digital Throttle & Shift (DTS) controls deliver smooth, quiet shifting and instant throttle response, with zero hesitation. You can further enhance handling and performance with available Electric Steering for multi-engine boats. Whisper-quiet and ultra-responsive, the system consumes less than half the electrical power as electro-hydraulic steering. (Single-engine Electric Steering coming later this year.)

Exceptionally Smooth & Quiet
The rugged, refined Advanced MidSection (AMS) mounting system cradles the powerhead to isolate vibration, while careful tuning dampens induction sounds and nearly eliminates injection noise. So you can enjoy your conversations and cruise with comfort.

Adaptive Speed Control
The Adaptive Speed Control feature lets you maintain engine rpm despite changes in load or conditions. Climbing large swells is easier. Cruising at low speeds is smoother. Carving out tight turns is effortless. You just point the bow toward your destination, and Verado takes it from there.

Advanced Sound Control

Choose the sound that moves you with the industry-exclusive Advanced Sound Control feature. It lets you toggle between a whisper-quiet exhaust tone or a throatier growl at startup and idle, for those times you truly want to hear the horsepower.

speed icon Precision Gearcase

At high speeds, the hydrodynamic gearcase slips effortless through the water, maximizing efficiency and enhancing stability. At low speeds, its large-diameter Revolution X™ prop powerfully grips the water, giving you confident, authoritative handling around the docks, while providing instant hole shots when it’s time to move.

Enhanced Acceleration

The latest 350hp Verado outboard has been performance tuned to deliver an even greater mid-range punch, resulting in 15% faster 0-50 mph acceleration compared to the original V10 350hp outboard. It’s also 17.8 seconds faster from 0 to top speed than a 350hp competitior.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

All new Mercury outboards are required by Mercury Marine to have a certified technician PDI (Pre Delivery Inspection) the engine after installation to have the warranty activated.  This not only ensures the product is set up to the manufacturer's specifications but also allows us as a dealer to ensure that the installation was done correctly.  If the engine is purchased and installed by us, it is standard procedure for us to perform the PDI.  If the engine is purchased and is installed by the consumer or non-dealer, the engine must be taken to another authorized Mercury dealer or to us to be inspected and registered to have the warranty activated.
There will be a small fee associated with the purchase of the engine if we are not doing the installation and if the consumer decides to have us register it.

When it comes to the Mercury Verado outboard line, designations like XL, XXL, CXL (and even CXXL) mostly refer to shaft length / rigging height rather than major differences in the powerhead or core engine itself. Below is a breakdown of what each one means, what to look for, and how it may impact your application.

What the designations mean

XL: This stands for “Extra Long” shaft length. According to Mercury’s specifications, the XL version is generally built for a 25-inch shaft height (from anti-ventilation plate to transom) or 635 mm in metric.

XXL: This reflects a still longer shaft length (30-inch / ~762 mm) — used for boats with higher transoms or deeper mounting arrangements.

CXL: The “C” can denote “Cambered Skeg” or “Counter-rotation” or “Cambered/Canted” version of the XL rig. It’s used when specifying a rigging variation in the same power class with the extra-long shaft. For example, a Verado CXL might be the XL version but with cambered skeg (to allow tighter turning clearance) or counter-rotation for multiple engine setups.

CXXL: By extension, this means the “canted/cambered version of the XXL” shaft length. (Often appears in pricing lists).

Practical implications for you / what changes

Here are what you should pay attention to:

Transom height and mounting depth: If your boat or application has a higher transom or you’re mounting on a deep hull, you’ll likely need the XL or XXL version to ensure the propeller stays submerged properly and avoids ventilation.

Rigging complexity and cost: The longer shaft versions (XL, XXL) tend to cost more (you’ll see higher pricing on lists). For example, a pricing list shows F250 Verado V8: L version versus XL versus CXL versus XXL – the XXL (or CXXL) comes with a higher price.

Performance differences: Not inherent in the shaft length. That is, the core engine (power output, displacement, cylinders) is the same within a given horsepower class; the difference is the physical mounting/shaft length variant. So you shouldn’t expect big jumps in horsepower just because you choose XL vs XXL.

Multiple engine setups / counter-rotation: The “C” versions (CXL, CXXL) may often be configured for counter-rotation or special rigging for dual-engine installations. For example, a listing for 250XXL shows 30“shaft length specification.

Fitment & suitability: If the shaft is too short for the transom height, you risk cavitation, ventilation, reduced performance, faster wear. If you oversize shaft length you add unnecessary weight/drag or mismatched trim. So selecting the correct version is critical for optimum performance & longevity.

Recommendation summary

For your needs (assuming you are advising on selection, or dealing with marine products):

Choose XL when your boat’s transom height is moderate (around 25-inch space) and you want the “extra long” over standard.

Choose XXL when you have higher transom, deeper hull, or need the 30-inch shaft.

Choose CXL (or CXXL) when you have the same shaft height as XL/XXL but require special rigging features: cambered skeg, counter-rotation, dual-engine setup, etc.

Always ensure you are matching the rigging to the boat’s design (transom height, hull type, mounting height) rather than simply picking “the best” version.
